Ideas and proposals
Something missing? Something wasting your time? Say so. That is how the program gets better.
What you can propose
- New features
- Something CryptoUpload does not do today and that you would need.
- Awkward things
- One step too many, a message that makes no sense, a window that confuses.
- Translations and wording
- A mistake, an unclear sentence, a missing language.
- More cloud storage
- A provider you would like to see supported.
- Where to write
- The public page for proposals opens together with the first public release.
Not here: security problems
- Why in private
- Proposals are public: anyone can read them. A flaw described in public before it is fixed is an invitation to whoever wants to exploit it, and the people using the program would pay for it.
- What counts
- Anything that could let someone read, alter or lose data, steal a key or a password, or get around a protection. When in doubt, treat it as a security problem.
- Where to write
- To security@cryptoupload.org, and only there. You get an acknowledgement within 5 working days.
How to write it so it helps
- One proposal at a time
- Ten ideas in one message get lost. One at a time gets discussed.
- Describe the problem
- What you were trying to do and what made it hard is worth more than a ready-made solution.
- Check whether it exists
- If someone has already proposed it, add your vote or your case there instead of opening another.
What happens next
- Every one is read
- Behind CryptoUpload there is one person, in their spare time. Every proposal is read, but there are no guaranteed timings and not everything will be done.
- Everything stays visible
- Proposals and replies stay public, including the ones where the answer is no.
- Want to write code?
- The source is public under the GPLv3: you can propose a change directly.
