Funding, in the open
CryptoUpload has no income and the person who writes it earns nothing from it. This page says which grants it might apply for, where each application stands and what the money would be for.
What it would be for
- Independent security audits
- Carried out by serious, specialised firms. It is the most important expense, and the one a single person cannot afford.
- Costs one person cannot cover
- For example the certificates needed to sign the installers, so that Windows stops showing warnings.
- Not to make money
- No personal pay. The reason is on the home page, receipt included.
What it has cost so far
- More than a year of work
- A year and a few months, in spare time and unpaid.
- About 4 months of Claude Pro subscription
- Paid out of pocket. Claude was used to work on the code and, above all, for security testing.
- Security testing still limited
- Unfortunately the more aggressive tests with Claude have not been possible yet: the application to have Claude Code’s permissions unlocked has not been approved so far. It is one of the reasons audits by outside firms are needed.

Know a grant that fits?
A call for proposals, a foundation, a public programme that supports free software for privacy and security: if you know one that is missing here, point it out. It is real help.
Donations
Voluntary donations are the only other possible income. The way to donate is not active yet: when it is, it will appear here.
